Subilo Energy Partners with Engie and Spartan Industries to Bring E-Mobility to Rural Zambia

2 Min Read

In a groundbreaking effort to advance e-mobility and reduce carbon emissions in rural Zambia, Subilo Energy has entered into a tripartite partnership with Engie Energy and Spartan Industries. The collaboration aims to deploy electric bikes (e-bikes) and establish the supporting infrastructure to connect communities to sustainable transport solutions.

This initiative focuses on providing electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers powered by renewable energy through newly installed solar mini-grids in the Eastern Province. Subilo Energy will spearhead the setup of battery charging and swapping stations, while Engie Energy will supply electricity via its 100kW solar mini-grids. Spartan Industries will supply the e-bikes to rural customers, enabling access to affordable, clean transportation.

The first phase of the project has already been implemented in Chataika village, located 40km from Petauke and 25km from Sinda. The village now benefits from Subilo’s battery charging and swapping stations, powered by Engie’s solar mini-grid, which also supplies electricity to the local community. Spartan Industries has rolled out a fleet of e-bikes, giving residents access to modern and eco-friendly mobility options.

Residents of Chataika are already experiencing the advantages of this infrastructure, including reduced travel costs and increased operational efficiency in their daily lives. The partnership underscores Zambia’s commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and expanding sustainable energy solutions beyond urban centers.

This initiative marks a significant milestone in the country’s journey toward sustainable development, highlighting the potential of collaborative efforts in transforming rural communities through renewable energy and e-mobility.
