I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to listen.

Here are the key takeaways from the briefing:

NC Issues Ultimatum for ICT Registration:

The National Coordinator of SMART Zambia Institute, Mr. Percy Chinyama, issued a firm ultimatum, requiring all ICT professionals to register with ICTAZ by the end of September 2024. This directive aligns with a 2023 pronouncement and the ICTAZ Act No. 7 of 2018.

ICT Compliance:

Over 400 ICT professionals within central government are now compliant with ICTAZ through payroll deductions, as ensured by the SMART Zambia Institute. This is a significant milestone in upholding professional standards within the sector.

Mandatory Compliance for Government-Engaged Professionals:

All individuals engaged by the government—whether as employees, contractors, or consultants—must achieve ICTAZ compliance by the end of September.

Value Enhancement Initiatives:

The ICTAZ President, Dr. Clement Sinyangwe, announced the implementation of CPD points tied to certificate renewals, member-to-member mentorships, podcasts, professional newsletters, articles, magazines, member profiling & spotlighting, and increased continental support and participation as part of our strategy to enhance member value.

Recognition of Industry Achievements

Dr Sinyangwe announced that ICTAZ, in its continued effort to recognise the achievements of individuals and institutions in the I.T. sector, will host the 2024 Awards at a gala dinner to be held on 6th December 2024. A 2024 ICTAZ Awards committee with representation from the public and private sector has been constituted.

Collaboration to Drive Digital Transformation:

Mr. Chinyama emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to drive the digital transformation agenda through dialogue, knowledge sharing, and mutual support. This joint effort is essential to achieving a fully digital Zambia.

Support for SME Growth:

Both the National Coordinator and ICTAZ President highlighted the role of ICT in supporting the growth of SMEs, which is crucial for economic development and job creation. ICTAZ will collaborate with Smart Zambia to foster this growth.

Adherence to High Standards:

Mr. Chinyama stressed that while technology is crucial, people management and adherence to high standards are equally important in ensuring professional stability and optimal service provision in the ICT sector.

Constitution Crafting:

Dr. Sinyangwe called on ICTAZ members to unite in drafting a robust constitution that reflects the association’s aspirations and promotes innovative, responsible, and reputable ICT professionals.

Flexibility and Inclusivity:

ICTAZ will continue to build on its commitment to flexibility, inclusivity, and diversity regarding membership categories and fees, ensuring that the association meets the diverse needs of all ICT professionals.
